4 Local Happy Hour Food Offerings You'll Want to Check Out

Ah, happy hour. The quintessential American holiday every (week)day. While those who love to imbibe a little after a long work day are the prime audience for this wonderful affair, happy hour food specials are no joking matter. Who doesn’t love a few good bar snacks with their drink of choice? Nachos? Sliders? Chicken wings? Mac n cheese? I’ll stop there before you slip in a puddle of drool. Next time five o’clock rolls around, give one of these four shops a shot.

Roast

The restaurant that carries Michael Symon’s name has one heck of a happy hour deal when it comes to good, cheap eats. Take a look at Roast’s bar menu and just wait for the salivating to begin. With full on sandwiches/wraps like the Roast Burger, Lil’ Clucker, and Beast Taco to the more snack-like smoked chicken wings, mac & cheese and beast poutine, Roast packs a powerful punch for its happy hour (served only at the bar). The best part? All bar items are half off during happy hour, Monday through Friday, 4-6:30 p.m. (kitchen opens at 4:30).

Cornerstone Barrel House

Cornerstone Barrel House puts its whiskey front-and-center in title and atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a killer happy hour menu. With most happy hour items between four and five dollars and more than 10 items to choose from, Cornerstone has plenty of options to get your snack Mondays through Friday from 3-6 p.m. Next time you find yourself dreaming in whiskey barrels, take a pit stop at Cornerstone after work for $3 hard cider braised pork, braised beef, fingerling potatoes and jalapeno cheddar biscuits.

Republic

Republic is not only one of Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers’ Top 10 new restaurants in Detroit, but also boasts a delicious happy hour menu. With $6 vegetarian Scotch eggs, $4 pot pie dumplings and more, Republic delivers a finer take on the traditional bar menu. Let’s not forget about Republic’s full bar and bartenders slinging premium craft cocktails. Happy hour at Republic runs Tuesday through Friday from 4-6 p.m.

Gold Cash Gold

Gold Cash Gold’s happy hour menu is simple, but don’t let that detract from the deal you’ll be getting. $6 nachos come packed with fried potato, pimento cheese mornay, fermented chili sauce, pickled peppers and served with homemade ranch. At an equal $6 price, the macaroni & cheese (wagon wheel pasta, bechamel cheese sauce and breadcrumb crust) is also a great choice. Pair either of these with $2 Miller High Lifes, $3 wines and $4 well drinks, and you have a small meal for no more than $10. The best part? Gold Cash Gold’s happy hour runs every day the restaurant is open (Tuesday-Sunday).
