5 Holiday Runs to Keep You Moving This Season


The weather might be getting colder, but that does not mean you should pack those running shoes in the closet for the rest of the year. There are still some great running events coming up in the area, and many of them happen to be holiday themed. With that in mind, here are five festive runs to partake in.

Ann Arbor Turkey Trot

The annual Ann Arbor Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving in downtown Ann Arbor. All runners will receive a long sleeve T-shirt, while 5K finishers will receive a custom medal, and Tot Trot 1K finishers will receive festive medals. Runners will also receive hot chocolate and the chance to take pictures with Santa and Turkey Tom.

Black Toenail Friday Half Marathon

Instead of waiting in insane lines on Black Friday, consider participating in the Black Toenail Friday Half Marathon on Friday, November 25. The event will take runners through the beautiful trails of Proud Lake State Recreation Area with either a 7 mile or a 13.1 mile run.

VBPSEF Belleville Jingle Bell

The Belleville Jingle Bell is one of the more fun runs in the area as there will be prizes awarded for things like most festive runner. There will also be medals for male and female 5K, Masters male and female 5K, and top 3 in age group.

Santa Hat Hustle

The 3rd Annual Santa Hat Hustle will take over Hazel Park on December 10. The run will feature a Merry 1 Mile, a 5K Run/ 5K Walk, a quarter mile Kids Donner Dash, and a Santa Pub Crawl later in the afternoon. There will also be a toy drive that will benefit Hazel Park kids and families who are in need.

7th Annual Shelby Township Jingle Bell

Part 5K run/walk, part holiday party, the 7th annual Shelby Township Jingle Bell will take place on Sunday, December 18. Medals will be awarded to top male and female runners, senior male and female runners, and top 3 in each age group. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Shelby Township Veterans Memorial, Penrickton Center for Blind Children, Cat Tail Acres, and Macomb County Special Olympics.
