Holiday Travel: Where to Dine at DTW

The holidays are always stressful, but add traveling during the holiday season into that equation and things quickly become a nightmare. If you find yourself at Detroit Metro Airport picking up, dropping off or hopping on a plane yourself around the holidays, allow this to be your guide to a very important aspect of airline travel: the food.
Skip the in-flight meal and opt for one of these restaurants instead.
You’ll find Hockeytown Café located at Gates D12 and 14. Immerse yourself in some tasty appetizers, a pizza or a burger and you’ll instantly feel like you’re downtown, not stranded in an airport because of crummy weather. If you’re a nervous flyer, opt for a nice, icy brew.
We Metro Detroiters love our coneys, and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a National Coney Island at Gates D15 and 16. Should you like to plan ahead, feel free to browse the menu here, but know that your favorites like the Coney Special, National’s Greek Omelet and The Original Hani Special are all on the menu.
Legends Bar, found at baggage claim, is a great place to grab a beer or mixed drink if you need to kill some time while you wait for your checked bag to circle through. Also applicable if you are waiting at the airport to pick up your in-laws—grab a drink first and either you or they may seem more pleasant afterwards.
For those who like a robust Italian meal before or after taking flight, consider Andiamo, located at Gate A30. Having just opened this past summer, it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. You’ll find staples like homemade pastas and even filet on the menu.
Mezza Mediterranean Grille, found at Gate A54, serves fast Greek favorites including appetizers, sandwiches and entrees. If you’re worried about getting puffy on the plane, why not eat something on the healthier end of the spectrum before you depart?
SlapShotz Bar & Grill serves quick breakfast, lunch and dinner options at Gate A24. Order a local Michigan craft beer off the draft list and relax while you wait for your burger/wings/sandwich to arrive in speedy fashion.
There you have it, Metro Detroiters! Don’t go hungry or thirsty during your travels this holiday season. Have a safe flight!
