Craft Beer Week: Local Breweries and Happenings

Craft Beer Week: Local Breweries and Happenings

This week is a great week. Do you know why that it is? It’s American Craft Beer Week (starting today and running through Sunday, May 22), which is cause for celebration. This year marks the 11th year of the occurrence. Michigan boasts more than 180 craft breweries in the state, including several in the metro Detroit area. If you would like to enjoy a microbrew to commemorate this occurrence, here are a few establishments and events to check out:

Arbor Brewing Company

With locations in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Arbor Brewing Company celebrates American Craft Beer Week in style. ABC will release a new beer each day of the week! This includes the Flower Assembly Pale Ale on Monday, the Pin of Euchre Pilsner on Wednesday and the 10 Blinks Cherry Saison on Saturday. You can see the full list on the event’s Facebook page.

As usual, it will have live music at the microbrewery on Monday (Ypsi) and live acoustic music on Tuesday at the brewpub (Ann Arbor).

Sherwood Brewing Company

This Shelby Township brewery is allowing for patrons to catch up on their history knowledge of Detroit beer. Tomorrow, the brewery hosts a History of Detroit Beer event. Festivities include a book signing by Stephen Johnson, the author of “Detroit Beer: A History of Brewing in the Motor City,” and founder of Motor City Brew Tours. Charles Korpal, a former tour guide for Stroh’s in the 1950s, also discusses the brewing industry.

Although these next breweries may or may not not be doing anything specifically for the week, each is always a great option:

Jolly Pumpkin (Ann Arbor, Detroit, Dexter)

Atwater Brewery (Detroit, Atwater in the Park – Grosse Pointe)

Roak (Royal Oak)

The Royal Oak Brewing Company (Royal Oak)

Witch’s Hat (South Lyon)

Brooks Brewing (Shelby Township)

Farmington Brewery (Farmington)

Ascension Brewery (Novi)

OK, there are far too many to name, but I haven’t met too many breweries I wasn’t a fan of. Take what you will with that information. Enjoy American Craft Beer Week responsibly, metro Detroit!
