Enjoy a Brew with a View: Rooftop Restaurants in the D

There might not be a better feeling than the feeling of the sun’s warmth on your face. Wait. There totally is. It’s the feeling of the sun’s warmth on your face while sipping mouthwatering craft beer at one of metro Detroit’s craft breweries! Each of the breweries on this list has rooftop seating, which is just what the doctor ordered this summer. Here are four breweries with rooftops where you’ll find cold beer and warm sun rays all summer long in metro Detroit!

Atwater Detroit Tap House

The rooftop of Atwater Brewery’s Detroit Tap House just opened this past May and has been serving delicious Atwater beer for you to sip and enjoy while catching some rays. The Dirty Blonde Ale and Whango Mango Wheat are mainstays on the rooftop but don’t worry, there’s plenty of other beers, wines and spirits on rotation too.

Jolly Pumpkin (Ann Arbor)

About a month ago, we checked out some local breweries with patio seating and Jolly Pumpkin’s Detroit location was at the top of our list. This time, we’re looking at the Ann Arbor location with its rooftop patio. With seven seasonal beers on tap plus bottles, wine and cocktails, you’ll be hard-pressed to not find something to enjoy up on the rooftop (without Old St. Nick).

HopCat (Royal Oak)

HopCat’s newest Michigan location (Royal Oak) is three floors filled with music, more than 30 Michigan craft beers and those “I can’t say no to you” delicious Crack Fries. Up on this rooftop, you’ll find a prime view of downtown Royal Oak, which is just as special at night when the city comes alive, as it is during the day when the sun comes out to play (hey, that rhymed!)

Motor City Brewing Works

Midtown’s very own Motor City Brewing Works has become a mainstay of the city’s craft beer scene and what better place to relax after a long day of classes at Wayne State University or an exhaustive (but informative!) day of walking tours at the DIA? MCBW has a few brews to choose from, like its signature Pale Ale and the name you’ll never forget “Ghettoblaster.”

Remember to drink responsibly and plan ahead with a designated driver or take advantage of one of these local designated driving services.
