As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers…yeah right. Us Michiganders know that fairy tale. April did bring plenty of rain showers to southeast Michigan, but it also brought plenty of frigid temperatures and even snow!
However, whether it’s pouring rain or the sun is shining bright, there’s always something to do in metro Detroit! Below we’ve compiled a list of some cool events happening this month in the area.
Calling all metro Detroit comic book fans! The Motor City Comic Con is returning for southeast Michigan’s annual celebration of comic books, television shows, pop culture and more from May 13-15 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
Guests at this year’s show include Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Daredevil), Lena Heady (Game of Thrones), Adam West & Burt Ward (1960s Batman & Robin) Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Neal Adams (Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern/Green Arrow comics), Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, Infinite Crisis, New X-Men) and many more.
This week-long event invites entrepreneurs and budding tech enthusiasts to downtown Detroit for seven days of interactive workshops, hackathons, startup pitch competitions and more. The event runs May 2-8 and some of the planned events include a Diversity in Tech panel on Monday at Bamboo Detroit, the Launch Startup Competition on Tuesday at Techtown and An Insider’s View – The Reporter’s Perspective on Wednesday at Grand Circus.
Techweek Detroit is open to students, enthusiasts and professionals with the free “Fest” pass. However, in order to access elite speaker sessions at Summit, a $100 “All Access” pass must be purchased.
Hosted by the The Arts & Crafts Company, the 1st Annual Arts & Crafts Beer Bash will be held May 20 at their location in downtown Detroit. Breweries will be on hand, breaking out special beers from their secret stash just for this event. Live music and art will also be present, so bring a friend and enjoy some craft beer and good times.
