New Year's Resolutions: The Metro Detroit Edition

It’s that time of year again, when we all stop to make resolutions for the coming year. While you could make the same vow as everyone else about hitting the gym more often and eating healthier, why not commit to a few resolutions that are more specific to Metro Detroit?

You can even consider the following items as a sort of bucket list for 2016, as well as your resolutions for the year:

  1. Get outside of your comfort zone. You won’t discover any new restaurants, friends or awesome bars from your couch. There’s nothing wrong with the occasional lazy night in, but let 2016 be the year you finally try that hot new restaurant everyone is talking about.
  2. Attend a Detroit sporting event. You’ve never been to Comerica Park? Check that off of your list this year. While you’re at it, stop for dinner and a drink at Bucharest or Rub BBQ Pub. Whether you’re a fan of football, baseball, basketball or hockey, support our Lions, Tigers, Pistons or Red Wings from the stands this year instead of just on TV.
  3. Stay active during the winter months—and that doesn’t mean only at the gym. Sure, sign up for a class at a fitness center, like Detroit Yoga or Core Sport Pilates Fitness Studio. At the same time, remain active throughout winter by visiting Eastern Market, attending a pop-up dinner or enjoying an ice festival.
  4. Learn something new. Take a cooking class at Mirepoix, sign up for a cocktail class at The Sugar House or get in touch with your artsy side with a class at the DIA. Include your kids in this endeavor, too: Rock and Roll Prep School is a great way for your musically inclined children to learn an instrument.
  5. Immerse yourself in local culture. Snag an album (digital or otherwise) of a local band or artist, then go see them in concert. Attend an art festival this summer, or check out artisans at The Rust Belt Market.

No matter what your resolutions for 2016 are, be sure to have a safe and happy new year.
