Going meat-free on Fridays means plenty of fish and chips, but if/when you start to tire of battered and fried, what’s a guy or gal to do? Head to one of southeast Michigan’s best seafood restaurants for a variety of fresh, meat-free options!
From pan seared fish to scallops to shrimp, there is plenty to choose from at the following restaurants in metro Detroit:
For nearly 25 years, Rocky’s has been serving up fresh fish and tasty seafood entrees. Order the Chipotle Honey Glazed Atlantic Salmon (served with asparagus, mango salsa and rice), Broiled Whitefish (with rice pilaf and veggies) or Casino Shrimp (topped with Provencal).
Located in downtown Plymouth, this tapas style restaurant is great for sharing small plates, or if you’re really hungry, large ones. Fish Tacos, Mussels and Pan Seared Sea Scallops are all great sharables, while Lobster Roll, Michigan Farm Raised Shrimp and Grits and Fish and Chips are excellent full-sized portions.
Of the Kruse and Muer Restaurants company, the dinner menu at Kabin Kruser’s has plenty of fresh seafood to choose from. Stuffed Shrimp (packed with crabmeat stuffing), Jimmy’s Lake Perch (flash fried and served with lemon beurre blanc) and Steamed Alaskan Snow Crab Legs are just a few options.
A classic in the city of Detroit, you’ll find a raw bar and sushi bar, along with a great selection of seafood entrees at Joe Muer. Your choices include Alaskan King Crab Ravioli, Crab Stuffed Atlantic Flounder and Lake Erie Yellow Belly Perch (sautéed or beer battered with lemon and tartar sauce).
You’ll find only the highest quality seafood at this Grosse Pointe Farms restaurant. Entrees include Shrimp Scampi Linguine (tossed with marinated tomato, arugula, garlic and white wine butter sauce), Cedar Planked Salmon (a gluten free dish served with red quinoa) and Seared Scallops.
Additional seafood eateries to visit in metro Detroit include: Sinbad’s (Detroit), Rockefellers Oyster Bar and Grill (Grosse Pointe Park), Real Seafood Company (Ann Arbor), Lily’s Seafood Grille and Brewery (Royal Oak), Streetside Seafood (Birmingham), Harbor House (Detroit), River Crab (St. Clair) and Tom’s Oyster Bar (Royal Oak).
