While the Detroit Zoo is open year round, there’s something special about springtime at the zoo. Whether you’re bringing your children or spending an evening out with friends, you won’t want to miss out on the following events:
Bring your children to meet the Easter Bunny during this event held Friday, March 25 through Saturday, March 26. From 10 a.m. to 4 pm., families can enjoy an egg hunt, Jelly Bean Jamboree, Funny Bunny Games and more.
Set to open on Monday, April 18, the Polk Penguin Conservation Center will be the largest penguin facility in the world, housing more than 80 penguins of four different species, including gentoo, macaroni, rockhopper and king.
Zoo visitors can watch penguins as they explore their habitat, including a 326,000-gallon, 25-foot deep aquatic area. Tunnels, similar to those in the zoo’s Arctic Ring of Life, will give visitors views of the action from overhead and below.
Looking to add a furry new addition to your family? Visit the zoo on Friday, May 13 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, a pet adoption event held in partnership with the Michigan Humane Society.
Since the inaugural event in 1993, more than 21,000 dogs, cats and rabbits have found new homes!
While several of the above events are free with zoo admission, some are ticketed events that require purchased admission. Click the above links for more information, and enjoy spring at the zoo!
