Whiskey Rebellion 4: Craft Cocktails at The Keep this Sunday

When it’s this frigid out, there’s nothing better to warm you from the inside out than a cocktail. And there’s no better place to enjoy a cocktail than in the company of Travis Fourmont and Joe Robinson, the duo better known as Bailout Productions.

Stay warm, socialize and sample some of the area’s finest whiskey cocktails at Whiskey Rebellion 4, held at The Keep in Detroit this Sunday, Jan. 17 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Celebrating some of the top cocktail connoisseurs in southeast Michigan, the event features bartenders Rick Paulger of Roast, Chas Williams of The Oakland, Shane Bang of Standby and Rudy Leon of Selden Standard.

When Bailout Productions held its first Whiskey Rebellion at Green Dot Stables in January 2013, they didn’t plan on making it an annual event, but the second and third editions were equally successful.

“Whiskey Rebellion is a great opportunity to try some amazing cocktails and party with top bar industry professionals,” Fourmont said. “It’s going to be a crazy party.”

Each Whiskey Rebellion is held in a new location to showcase a bar Fourmont and Robinson feel best promotes the cocktail culture of the area. This year, they chose to focus more on the participating bartenders, each of whom created a unique whiskey cocktail to showcase.

“Choosing the bartenders was tricky,” Fourmont said. “There are so many talented bartenders all over Michigan, and we only had room for four.”

As for the bar itself, The Keep is an underground speakeasy-style bar with classic and contemporary style cocktails that has become one of the best watering holes around for industry professionals.

In addition to craft cocktails, attendees will be provided with light appetizers, courtesy of Standby, and live music by Shine on Kentucky Moon, all for a $10 cover charge.

With so many great bars and restaurants all over Michigan, Fourmont doesn’t see the craft cocktail trend slowing down any time soon.

“The cocktail scene here (in Detroit) has continued to grow tremendously every year. We are coming to a time that having a solid cocktail program is essential in order to compete,” Fourmont said.
