Brian’s Camaro Pace Car

Fa 001

By Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers

“Back in 1999, I belonged to a Camaro / Trans Am / Firebird car club even though I did not own any one of these cars. I have always been a ”Camaro lover” since day one, but especially the 4th generation Camaro’s. I had met the club president at a local cruise-in and ended up joining the club that week. (summer of 99) I then searched, searched, & searched for my dream car in my home state of Michigan and also the state of Ohio.

I then learned that you CANNOT purchase a car without seeing or driving it in person!!!! What people say over the phone was NOT true for the most part, especially when traveling over 3 1/2 hours to go and look at the possibility of bringing home your dream car! So FINALLY after looking for just over 3 years, I found my dream car (1997 30th Anniversary Edition Camaro) at the 2001 Woodward Dream Cruise! Our car club was parked just north of 11 Mile on the west side of Woodward for the day. At 8:30pm, 1/2 hour before they were to start closing off Woodward, here comes the car I have been looking for going north bound with Auto Trader signs in the window. I shot out of my car show chair like a cannon (knocking it over) crossing over Woodward and proceeding to get to the car. It was bumper to bumper traffic, so I was actually walking next to the car, looking it over, & talking with the owner all at the same time to get the info. that I needed while traffic was still creeping along! All of the car club members thought that I was pretty crazy at that particular time, but I couldn’t let it get away & my emotions got the best of me! I told the owner that I would call her later that evening to come and look at the car tomorrow.

I went Sunday morning by myself to look at the car, came back Monday evening with a buddy to test drive it, & purchased it on Wednesday!!!! I was VERY excited and have since turned the car into a “Tribute” pace car by adding decal’s and strobe light’s to replicate the 1996 Brickyard 400 Camaro which paced the Nascar race that year. I just never had enough money to buy the actual replica’s that General Motors sold to the public, so this was my ONLY option.”
