“I have a 1998 Sport Gold Metallic Hardtop/Manual Camaro SS. You don’s see this color often because Chevrolet only made 1399 Camaros in this color. In the SS model there were only 36 built. Mine is one of the 29 Coupes built and there were 7 convertibles.
I remember back in late 1997 when I went looking for a new 1997 Camaro. I didnt know what to think of the newly changed body style that was coming out soon for the camaro and few 1997′s were still around selling new. I remember in the Camaro Brochure for 1998 I saw this Gold color that was available. Well, I found the camaro I was looking for (my 1997 Black SLP Camaro SS) and puchased it. Fast forward years later and while looking for another F-Body to drive I started seeing that Gold I had seen in the Camaro Brochure from back in 1997.
I like rare and unique Camaros & Firebirds so I began searching for Camaros in Gold. I found very few and one day I thought I found the one I really wanted. It was a 1998 Gold Camaro SS Hardtop/Automatic. I contacted the owner and tried to figure out when I could go look at it. It was out of state and well I lost out on it as it was sold before I could get something planned out.
A Gold Convertible Camaro SS surfaced out of state and the dealership it was at just never came down to a price I could afford. So I tried forgetting that one too!
Well, in January of 2011 I found a Gold Hardtop/Manual Camaro SS for sale. Even though the asking price was out of my budget I contacted the owner anyway. After talking and getting pictures from them I decided it was something I wanted to pursue. Since almost 2 months had gone by and the car was still not sold I asked if they would come down on the price. They did and I decided to send a deposit to hold the car until I could look at it. This camaro was in Arizona so I had to plan a trip to go look at it. I found out a camaro show was going to be held very close by. I decided if I was going I might as well try to go that weekend of the show. I worked it out with the owner and flew out on a saturday morning. I really liked the car and left a large deposit on the car. I went to the scamaro show afterwards then flew home the next day. Well I sent the difference and we arranged for the owner to take the car to the shipping company. I had the car trailed home and the rest is history. I have put 1000 miles on it since I got it. I love driving it and love the unique color. The car is also all stock, minus the tires and battery.”
