Recently, we covered a few riverfront restaurants to dine at in Detroit, but what if you wanted to take your evening to the clouds? No, not your phone’s cloud; the real clouds! Rooftop dining is one of the quintessential summer dining experiences, especially in a place like Detroit. There are plenty of places with great views of the city and even some overlooking venues like Comerica Park (fireworks, anyone?). Read on to find out where you might be grabbing a drink in the city next.
Briggs Sports Bar is located in downtown Detroit and, like a good sports bar, has plenty of sports, good food, and good beer. But, the fun doesn’t stop there. Briggs also has an optional rooftop for those warm nights outside in what it calls the Sky Box. In addition to a full kitchen, DJs and slushies (yes, slushies), special events are hosted in the Sky Box every week, like “Macho City” on Saturdays and “Flør Play” on Sundays.
When the weather is right, the rooftop of the Detroit Opera House is transformed into a cocktail dining experience with a beautiful view of the city of Detroit (including Comerica Park), music from a live DJ and all around good times with you, your friends and the opportunity to meet a few new ones. DOH Sky Deck is only open on select days starting late spring and going through mid fall. Check out its schedule to know when it will be open next.
Located in Greektown, Level Two has, well, two levels, each with a full bar. The first level is open year-round, and is covered and heated. However, the second level on the rooftop is what we’re here for today! Great weather is reason enough to take your drink outside, but with a view from Greektown in Detroit, what more do you need? How about a selection of over 40 bottled beers, eight different drafts on tap and a menu of salads, burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads and more?
Canfield St. is home to Motor City Brewing Works, a Detroit-based brewery with its own taproom that serves up not only freshly tapped beer, but pizza, too. And who can say no to pizza and beer? Next time you’re in the area, try one of Motor City Brewing Works’ flagship beers, like Ghettoblaster, Bohemian Lager or Motor City Pale Ale.
