Detroit Band on the Rise: Blaire Alise & The Bombshells

Detroit is known for many things: cars, Coney dogs, and rock ‘n’ roll, to name a few. Singer/songwriter Blaire Alise, frontwoman of Blaire Alise & The Bombshells, falls into the latter category.

Her music has plenty of 60s girl group influence, with an overall catchy garage rock sound. Alise started her band almost three years ago, and met her current bandmates, Kyle Schanta (drums) and Eric Allen (bass) playing shows around Detroit.

Blaire Alise & The Bombshells released its first full-length album, “For My Darlin’” in May 2014. Alise just signed with Carlin Nashville, and the band is headed to Tennessee this week to record their second album.

“I think you can definitely hear the progression in my songwriting and we’re totally coming into our own a little bit. It’s definitely sounding more like myself,” she said, noting that the new album will feature tons of harmonies and an upbeat sound.

If you head to a live show anytime soon, you can expect something a little different than what you hear on the album. Alise says live shows are more raw and stripped down, differing from the recordings, which are technical and layered with lots of instrumentals.

Blaire Alise & The Bombshells will play a show at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor this Saturday, Aug. 15 and the Double Record Release Party with Pretty Ghouls celebrates the release of both bands’ respective new four song EPs.

Alise finds her musical inspiration from girl groups of the 1960s, including The Crystals and The Cookies, as well as bands like The Velvet Underground and The Beatles. Detroit rock and roll and garage rock are also on her list of musical influences.

“It’s just always been inside of me ever since I was little,” Alise said of her passion for music. “I’ve always been obsessed with playing music and writing.”

She isn’t slowing down anytime soon, and neither is Blaire Alise & The Bombshells. Stay up to date with the band online, and follow the group on Facebook for the latest.
