Summer is in full swing in Metro Detroit, which also means many of the area’s farms and orchards are in top form as well. While apples are available throughout most of the summer, cherries are usually only available for a couple of weeks in July. Now is your chance to get fresh, tasty, sweet or tart cherries from local orchards and farms!
A perfect place to take the family on a summer afternoon, Spicer Orchards in Fenton offers plenty of U-Pick chances throughout the year. Assuming Mother Nature cooperates with the orchard’s harvesting schedule, red tart and sweet cherries should be available for picking throughout the month of July. For more detailed information on estimated dates for U-Pick opportunities, consult the orchard’s harvest schedule.
Operating for the better part of seven decades, Milan’s Was Fruit Farm offers plenty of great U-Pick chances throughout the summer. Tart cherries are ready for picking in early July, but are only available for two or three weeks depending on the weather. For all of the farm’s available fruits, be sure to check out their fruit index on their website.
Erwin Orchards in South Lyon has been a go-to orchard for many families for nearly 100 years. Sweet cherries are ready to pick at the beginning of July and usually are available for about three weeks. Be sure to visit the homepage on their website to see how long these tasty sweet cherries will be available.
Blake’s Apple Orchard, one of the most popular orchards in Metro Detroit, might be known for its apple picking, but there are plenty of other picking options throughout the year. The month of July features ripe cherries along with raspberries, apples, cucumbers, and summer squash. There’s always something fun on the horizon at Blake’s, so be sure to check out their events calendar.
Britton’s Kapnick Orchards is a family-owned and operated orchard and farm market that has been providing the community fresh produce since 1961. The farm offers cherries, pears, apples, peaches, strawberries and much more when they are in season, and also delicious baked goods in their farm market.
