Gladly Gluten-Free in the D

There’s a stigma attached to ‘gluten-free’ where some might think that you have to sacrifice taste for nutrition, but that’s simply not true. Many restaurants have updated their menus to include gluten-free options, and have certainly not sacrificed any taste. So if you’re looking for flavorful gluten-free meals in Metro Detroit, check out these restaurants.

Detroit Vegan Soul

Featuring a 100% plant-based menu, Detroit Vegan Soul has a wide variety of options for lunch and dinner. If you’re looking for something lighter, we’d suggest the sesame kale salad with organic kale massaged in a house-made sesame dressing, sun-dried tomatoes, and sesame seeds. If you’re looking for something a little more flavorful try their smothered tempeh with brown mushroom gravy, green onions, and sliced almonds.

Pie-Sci Pizza

Pie-Sci Pizza is far from your normal pizza shop as they serve up inventive pizzas that can’t be found anywhere else. Any of their large pizzas can be made gluten-free for $3 extra, and we’d suggest trying their Margherita pizza made with garlic oil, cherry tomato, fresh basil, and mozzarella. Don’t forget to save room for dessert as their handmade ice-cream sandwiches, known as cloud bites, are vegan and gluten-free as well.

The Hudson Cafe

If you need to satisfy that sweet tooth in the morning, there are few places better than The Hudson to do just that. They offer two gluten free breakfast options including a very berry French toast that are stuffed with fresh sliced bananas and cream cheese frosting, and are topped with fresh berries and berry compote. They also offer gluten-free blueberry, strawberry, banana or pecan pancakes.

Vinsetta Garage

Winner of our 2018 March Munchie Mania, Vinsetta Garage is clearly a Metro Detroit favorite. Their ‘You-Choose Pizza’ allows you to choose the type of crust, with a house cheese blend or fresh mozzarella, along with toppings for a small fee. If you’re not in the mood for pizza (which is hard to believe), we’d suggest the gluten-free mac and cheese made with Vermont white cheddar, ziti rice noodles, gluten-free béchamel, parmesan and a crunchy flour-less crust.

Seva

Seva in Midtown Detroit and Ann Arbor offers up unique and great tasting vegetarian cuisine. Their gluten-free menu includes options such as a vegan nacho dip, cilantro-peanut stir fry, a California scramble dish, and a mushroom French dip. Be sure to follow their Facebook page for updates and mouth-watering images.
