While you might think finding a delicious meatless dish in the area would be difficult, the vegan and vegetarian dining options in southeast Michigan could make even the biggest of carnivores think twice about subbing out his/her steak for something plant based. So whether you’re a long time vegan/vegetarian or are looking to try something new, here are some of the best meatless restaurants in metro Detroit.
With locations in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Seva features a menu filled with great vegetarian appetizers, salads, entrees, and sandwiches. Consider starting out with an order of General Tso’s Cauliflower as you peruse entree options like the Mushroom French Dip or Goat Cheese Ravioli.
Whether you are looking for a more unique option for your lunch break or need to order some catering, Greenspace Cafe in Ferndale is the place many vegetarians have grown to love. They have brunch, lunch, and dinner menus feature gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free options. There’s also a craft cocktail bar to help you wash down your delicious meal.
Featuring a wide ranging menu from Western European flavored plates, to Mexican options, to even the best vegan comfort food, Chive Kitchen in Farmington is a small but unique vegan restaurant. Their most popular item is their Reuben which includes corned beef seitan, Chao coconut cheese, grilled red peppers and onions, deli relish sauce, deli slaw and house fries.
Om Cafe in Ferndale features a different menu every night and might just have the best vegetarian brunch on Sunday mornings with options like the Tofu Scramble and Breakfast Nachos. Dinner menu staples include dishes like Vegan Mac, El Mexicano, and a Tempeh burger. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for the weekly stir fry, soup, and taco specials.
With two locations in Ann Arbor, The Lunch Room is one of the best vegan options around. Fill up with one of their PowerUp Bowls which feature grilled red pepper and red onions, marinated tofu, steamed and seasoned wilted kale over brown rice, and topped with walnuts and maple dijon drizzle.
As you can see, delicious meatless dishes are not hard to come by in metro Detroit. Other restaurants that offer great vegetarian/vegan options include: Vedge Cafe in Ann Arbor, Detroit Vegan Soul, Inn Season Cafe, The Clean Plate, NeeHee’s Indian Street Food, and Try it Raw. So whether you’re a vegetarian looking for something new, or a meat eater considering healthier options, be sure to try one of these fine restaurants!
