When you hear vegan, you might think of just healthy and organic foods. While that is the case, thanks to Street Beet and their delicious, 100% vegan comfort food options, you can enjoy some of your favorite treats with a vegan twist.

The pop-up establishment based in Detroit has grown into a popular spot to grab unique vegan treats. From vegan packzi on Fat Tuesday, to vegan tacos, to even Kentucky fake chicken, Street Beet does it all.

Street Beet is run by Nina Paletta and Meghan Shaw, both of whom quit their day jobs in 2018 to pursue this project. They quickly became busy and drew bigger crowds than they could imagine. Paletta and Shaw said that the inspiration for Street Beet came from the need to provide more accessible vegan food in Metro Detroit.

“We strive to make food that satisfies the cravings of vegan and meat eaters alike – that is fun, approachable and nostalgic,” Paletta said. “What started as just an experiment between us and our friends, has developed into something much larger thanks to the unbelievably supportive community we have here in Detroit.”

Whether you're going out on a fishing trip, discovering new hiking spots, or heading out for a weekend of camping, the Trailblazer is an ideal companion for your active lifestyle.

Street Beet takes over kitchens and bars all over the city and brings in their crew to develop a menu to serve for the night. Their focus is on plant based comfort food – including parodies of fast food joints – but with a more environmentally friendly twist.

Street Beet hosted its Vegan Taco Hell last week, which is actually their last pop-up until April because they are getting ready for the Vegan Street Fair happening in Los Angeles on March 23. The event is one of the largest vegan food festivals in the country, featuring over 150 vegan vendors, only three of which are outside of California, and Street Beet is proud to be one of those three. They’re excited to bring their extensive menu to the west coast.

“We will be making all vegan and gluten-free menu items, including our homemade waffle cones stuffed with smoked cheddar mac and cheese and topped with our fried fake chicken which is then drizzled with gravy aioli,” Shaw said.

They’ll be back in Detroit with another Vegan Taco Hell at PJ’s Lager House on Tuesday, April 9 and vegan BBQ at Slows Bar BBQ on Monday, April 22 for Earth Day.

Street Beet also has plans to develop a fully vegan menu for a Bowlero Lanes & Lounge in Royal Oak, along with seeking out their own space in the near future.
