Lights, Camera, Action… Chicago!

May 17, 2011 - May 22, 2011
Fisher Theatre, Detroit
Cost: $29-$75

Roxie Hart is a house wife and nightclub performer, with big dreams of being a headliner in Vaudeville. Velma Kelly is a scene stealing former headliner. What do these two have in common?  Murder.  That’s right… they both have been arrested for murder.  Roxie killed her lover after he failed to keep his end of their bargain to make her famous and then threatened to walk out on her.  Velma killed her husband and sister, when she caught them having an affair. 1920’s Chicago’s newspapers love to get the scoop and the naughtier, the better.  Velma has been at the top of their ratings for a long time, but once Roxie comes along, Velma is old news.  Roxie and Velma find themselves competing not only for the attention of the press, but also the focus of their shared lawyer, the suave Billy Flynn.   This riveting and twist turning plot is Chicago and it is coming back to Detroit.

Chicago, a Tony award winning Broadway musical, will be at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre May 17-22, 2011.  Chicago first opened to critical acclaim in November of 1996.  Since then, it has the distinction of becoming the longest running musical revival on Broadway.  With productions in 24 countries and 11 different languages, Chicago is known throughout the world.  This time around, Billy Flynn will be played by one of television’s most versatile actors, John O’Hurley.  If you have not had the pleasure of seeing this dazzling and gripping musical, now is the time.
