Metro Detroit has always had unique pie shops offering sweet, fruity, savory, flaky and every type of pie in between. For over 26 years, Achatz Handmade Pie Co. has made it their mission to provide Metro Detroiters with the healthiest and freshest pies around. Their pies are free of toxic agro-chemicals and they work with farms that practice good environmental procedures. Their seasonal pie menu includes an Autumn Harvest pie made with pumpkin mousse and candied pecans.
Grand Traverse Pie Company began as a small pie shop in downtown Traverse City and has grown into a Michigan favorite with many shops across the state. First timers should try their Grand Traverse Cherry Crumb pie which is made with Michigan Montmorency cherries and a toasty crumb topping, or any of their sweet cherry pies. For larger parties, check out their catering menu and wedding pie options. Love’s Custard Pie Love is not a strong enough word to describe Metro Detroit’s reaction to Love’s Custard Pies. The Southern style pie shop at Eastern Market makes a wide variety of pies suitable for any craving. They offer sweet pies such as chess and egg custard, their savory chicken pot pie, and seasonal offerings like pumpkin. Availability may be limited at Eastern Market, but you can call for full size pie orders at (313)748-2654. For the better part of seven decades, Ackroyd’s in Redford has provided people with bakery and pie goodness. The Scottish bakery’s savory pies feature traditional offerings such as Shepherd’s pie, meat pies, chicken pot pies, along with unique offerings such as bacon cheeseburger pies, chicken curry pies, and macaroni and cheese pies. If you can’t make it down to the shop, be sure to check out their shipping options, which include free shipping on orders of $99 or more. Apple Annie’s is known for a lot of things, including their award-winning soup, but their bakery also offers some fresh and scratch-made sweets. Their fruit pies selection includes apple, cherry, raspberry, blueberry, and pumpkin. The bakery also offers no sugar options with their apple, peach, and cherry pies.
