Detroit Moth StorySLAM

March 3, 2011

Everyone has some sort of story to tell, right?  So, what is your story?  Whatever it may be, The Moth gives you the opportunity to tell it.  What is the Moth?  It is a not-for-profit organization that has dedicated itself to the art and craft of story telling.  It began in New York City in 1997 by a novelist, George Dawes Green.  Over the years, The Moth StorySLAM has become so popular that it has spread to three other cities; LA, Chicago and our very own, Detroit.

In Detroit, the Moth hosts a StorySLAM the first Thursday of every month.  With the stage set and a microphone ready, all that’s missing is you!  An already chosen theme sets the tone for the night and can be found on The Moth’s website,  Of the submitted stories, 10 are heard and each story teller gets 5 minutes to spin their tale live without any notes.  Once they finish, 3 judges determine a score.  Later, after all the stories are heard, a winner is announced.  The winner of each SLAM later faces off in a GrandSLAM.  The night provides camaraderie, entertainment, delicious food and drinks and great stories.

The next Detroit StorySLAM will be held at Cliff Bell’s, located at 2030 Park in Detroit.  Doors open at 4:00 pm and stories will start at 7:30 pm.  There is a $5 cover at the door.  Click here for more information.
