Warm up this Winter with Indoor Sports In the D

After we were spoiled with unseasonably warm conditions in December, Old Man Winter has gotten his revenge on Metro Detroiters with downright frigid temperatures and a fair share of snow in January. So, what are we supposed to do for fun at this time of year? Go indoors. There are plenty of indoor sports and activities allowing us to stay active, while still having fun in the winter.
HYPE Athletics has two locations: one in Dearborn Heights and one in Wayne. The latter of which is where my friends and I have been playing basketball as of late. Basketball courts can be rented out by the hour, or anyone can play on open courts with a membership or day pass. There are also leagues for men and youth, as well as basketball camps for the youngsters.
Canton’s High Velocity is also where I play flag football. While the current session is already underway, the next session starts in early March. Games are on Wednesday nights and are played with six players on the field at a time for each team. The season consists of eight games and there is plenty of competition. Plus, you get to play in an inflatable dome!
Located in Fraser, Indoor Golf Club of Michigan offers an indoor driving range, chipping area and putting green all within its practice area. In addition, there are golf simulators with the capability to play at several golf courses throughout the globe. You can sign up for a tee time online to ensure the availability of a simulator. Rates and hours can also be viewed online.
The Family Aquatic Center’s indoor pool is great for both exercise and leisure during these winter months. The West Bloomfield aquatic center offers open swim, lap swim, swim classes, fitness classes, and an aerobics/dance studio. The indoor pool ranges from three to five feet deep and is kept at a warm temperature so you can shed those winter blues.
Although winter may be getting the best of our outdoor endeavors, it cannot take away indoor fun! There are plenty of sports and activities around to keep us fit and happy despite the cold.
