Mixing a fruity taste with a sweet finish, there’s a reason the peach cobbler is one of the top summertime desserts. The southern favorite isn’t always available year round in Metro Detroit, but many restaurants have it on their menu during the summer, which gives you a couple weeks to try the dessert. Here are five places you should definitely save room for dessert and order their peach cobbler.
Motor City Soul Food is not only locally beloved, but has a national presence with appearances on the Travel Channel and on numerous “Top Soul Food Restaurants” lists. Their menu is full of delicious soul food dinners, and their peach cobbler is the perfect way to cap off any meal. You can enjoy their delicious offerings at either their Detroit or Oak Park location.
Sweet Potato Sensations opened its doors in 1976 and has been baking great tasting pie ever since. While you might think of them for their sweet potato pies (and that would be good thinking), the bakery also makes plenty of other great tasting pies, including a southern influenced peach cobbler. Their Miss Effie Mae’s peach cobbler comes in either one-two or ten-twelve serving options.
Achatz Pies started out as a small bakery in 1993 and has grown to one of the top pie shops in Southeast Michigan. Their double crust peach pie is only available when peaches are in season, so be sure to check the website to see if it’s available. You can find where Achatz pies are sold nearest you, or even order online.
With a menu like creole, gumbo, jambalaya and more on the menu, Louisiana Creole Gumbo in Detroit is a must visit for anyone craving southern comfort food. For over 50 years their peach cobbler has been the perfect way to end one of their dinners as the restaurant has always aimed for an authentic southern dining experience. If you’re looking to add a southern flavor to your next gathering, check out their extensive catering menu.
Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffles in Detroit is not only known for their chicken and waffle offerings (duh), but also their homestyle sides and desserts. While you can enjoy collard greens, cheese grits, and candied yams during your meal, be sure to save room for the homemade peach cobbler. If you want a sneak peek at how good their food looks, be sure to follow Kuzzo’s on Facebook and Instagram.
