Learning a second language can be quite difficult on its own. Couple that with a busy schedule and it’s even more difficult just to find the time every week to sit down and study the language. While they say the best way to learn a second language is by living in a country where they speak that language natively, that simply isn’t an option for everyone. So, for folks that want to learn a second (third, fourth, fifth…) language either for work purposes or just for fun, we have compiled a quick list of places local to Detroit that offer foreign language courses.

Studio Espanol

Studio Espanol was founded by local Spaniard Joaquin Frias, who was originally from Madrid, Spain, but moved to Detroit after he completed his MBA at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. It was while working in the banking industry he saw the need for corporate language training and while his company, Studio Espanol, does offer corporate foreign language training, it also offers small group and private lessons to those wishing to learn Spanish as a second/foreign language.

Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit

Founded in the fall of 2006, Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit was created by parents that wanted to foster international education for children that would prepare them for professional and possibly international futures. As the name suggests, DSMD specializes in German language lessons. It offers corporate lessons with flexible hours at its Troy location or at your company’s location. Small group classes or private lessons are also available.

International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit

On the flipside of learning a language in a country like the U.S., where English is the primary language, immigrants might need to seek out a resource that can help them learn English as a second language. International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit does that and more by offering legal and cultural assistance to legal immigrants in addition to Spanish classes, foreign language classes, English as Second Language classes, GED classes, citizenship classes and even a history of Detroit class.

Whether you're going out on a fishing trip, discovering new hiking spots, or heading out for a weekend of camping, the Trailblazer is an ideal companion for your active lifestyle.

Berlitz Detroit/Bingham Farms Language Center

The Berlitz Language Center in the Village of Bingham Farms offers global leadership training, foreign language courses and more to the metro Detroit area. Offerings include French classes, English as a Second Language classes, Spanish classes, German classes, Japanese classes and more.
