Beer Cheese, Minestrone & Chicken Tortilla: Metro D's Best Soups

It’s no wonder that January is National Soup Month. There’s an inescapable chill in the air, and nothing warms you up from the inside out quite like a hearty bowl of soup.
Surely you know of a few places around town to find your typical chicken noodle variety, but if you’re looking for something unique with a bit more depth of flavor, check out the following restaurants in Metro D:
A classic steakhouse in Auburn Hills, you’ll find Minestrone Lelli on the menu. The restaurant’s famous homemade creamy soup is packed with vegetables and barley. Locals rave about it so much that you can find this knockoff recipe courtesy of food.com, if you’d like to challenge yourself to whipping up a pot at home.
Found in downtown Plymouth, everything on Bario’s menu is made with fresh, authentic Mexican flavors. Order the Tortilla Soup, with roasted chicken, corn, veggies, black beans, avocado, tortilla strips and crema. Another great option: Chicken and White Bean Chili.
When you think tomato soup, traditionally you think grilled cheese. How about some ribs or brisket instead? At this Ferndale barbecue joint, opt for the Jalapeno Tomato Bisque, topped with sour cream to cool it down.
Is there a more beautiful pairing of words in the English language than “beer” and “cheese”? I didn’t think so. A cup or bowl of the Detroit Beer Cheese Soup, made with Muenster cheese and Detroit Ale, comes with a side salad, so you’re not being too overly indulgent.
A staple at any seafood eatery, the Boston Clam Chowder at this Detroit restaurant is extra special, with root vegetables, potatoes, bacon and Quahog clams. If you’d like to try the other varieties, order the Soups a la Muer 1-1-1, a sampling of three homemade soups, including Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque and the soup du jour.
