Finding healthy alternatives to everyday foods and drinks has become a big trend on social media. We’ve highlighted a few already; from non-dairy oat milk, to orange wine, to even alcohol-infused Kombucha tea, there are plenty of new ways to experience your favorite drinks.
Water might not be your “favorite” drink, but its health benefits are undeniable. From boosting your metabolism, to helping with brain and other internal bodily functions, drinking plenty of water is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. That being said, there are ways to get all the great benefits of water, while also adding a little more flavor and even more health benefits. Here are a few tasty water alternatives.
One of the most popular alternatives to water is the thirst-quenching, sweet and nutty coconut water. Low in calories, naturally free of fat and packed with nutrients, coconut water is effective for weight-loss and is a perfect replacement for sports drinks. It has fewer calories and less sodium than the average sports drink, but is more hydrating and provides more energy.
While coconut water is well-known with health buffs and athletes, maple water is a lesser known alternative with similar benefits. Its delivery of electrolytes and vitamins is similar to that of coconut water, but has fewer calories and a milder taste. Maple water is especially good for bone health as it has nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, and iron. The subtle flavor and extra nutrients make it great to cook with.
Even more obscure is cactus water. With benefits for both the skin and sleep, cactus water is packed with electrolytes and can decrease redness in the skin without adding excess sugar as it helps prevent water loss.
Where Can You Get It in the D?
Try one of the aforementioned water alternatives or additional ones such as watermelon water and aloe water, in plenty health stores across the Metro Detroit area. Plum Market, Holiday Market, and Westborn Market offer plenty of healthy lifestyle options, including great tasting water alternatives.
