Online Grocery Ordering & Delivery Services in the D

Hopefully our days of 20 degree below wind-chills are behind us at this point, but living in Michigan, you never know. I can’t tell you how many times this winter I’ve a) gotten caught in a snowstorm while on the way to or home from the grocery store or b) it’s just been so darn cold that I convince myself I can in fact live on mac and cheese and cereal for a few days and no I don’t really need to go to the grocery store.

Neither are ideal scenarios, so when it’s snowy or rainy or you’re just feeling downright lazy, why not pick out your groceries online and have someone else deliver them right to your doorstep? It sounds too good to be true, I know, but this pipe dream can become a reality thanks to several grocery delivery services. The next time you’re getting ready to make your grocery list, keep the following in mind:

GoGet! Grocery Delivery has been around since 2010 and services all of Oakland County. All you have to do is pick out your items online and they’ll be delivered right to your kitchen!

The site is incredibly easy to use and allows the user to “shop by aisle,” so you can conveniently locate your favorite canned goods, condiments, dairy, baking needs and laundry items with the click of a mouse.

Next day delivery is guaranteed Monday through Friday, and at your convenience between 10 a.m. and noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., or 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. What’s the catch? No matter the size of your order, all you pay is a $10 delivery fee, plus the price of your groceries. Depending on your situation, that $10 could be completely worth it. To find out if GoGet! delivers to your area, use the handy zip code search feature on the home page.

Door to Door Organics is a delivery service that focuses on fresh, seasonal organic produce, not to mention local produce. For starters, you just need to choose a produce box (bitty, small, medium or large) and whether you want fruit, veggies or a mix. Then, select whether you’d like weekly or every-other-week delivery.

Once a week, you’ll receive an email letting you know what to expect in your box, and you’ll then be able to customize your items to ensure you’re getting everything you want. You’ll also get to select your delivery day.

In addition to the produce boxes, you can also visit The Good Food Shop, where you’ll find a selection of healthy grocery items that you can add to your cart for delivery. The best part about ordering produce from Door to Door organics is that the fruits and veggies come from local farmers, including Molter Family Orchards of Benton Harbor. Produce boxes range in price from $24.99 to $59.99 depending on the size.

Wolverine Grocery of Ann Arbor features over 4,000 grocery items on its website, so you likely won’t find variety lacking while placing your order. A minimum order amount of $30 is required for delivery, and a slight fee of $2.99 is tacked onto your order for a delivery charge. But really, that’s cheaper than when you order out and have to tip the pizza delivery boy! The delivery fee is also waived on orders over $100.

To get started, just choose an aisle and start making your way through your list. The site allows you to save your shopping list for the convenience of your next trip, and everything is categorized by aisle like you’d see in an actual grocery store. There’s even an “on sale this week” page where you’ll find the best deals.

Like most stores these days, Wolverine Grocery offers a loyalty program, so if you become a frequent customer, don’t forget to sign up! For every five orders you place, you’ll get money back.

Christa Shops for You is a personal shopping service of southeast Michigan that includes grocery shopping and delivery. This is great for the busy single parent on the go or the couple who just has no spare time to get the grocery shopping done. Provide your list to the professionals, along with your store of choice, and they’ll head out to your favorite store and get your shopping done for you.

Shopping services are billed at $30 an hour, and are due upon delivery. Additional services provided by Christa include sundry shopping, gift shopping, apparel shopping, light errands, house sitting and event planning.

Grocery shopping doesn’t have to be a bore, because you don’t even have to go to the store to do it! Do the easy part: get your list together and do your shopping a little differently this week.
