Crank It Up to 11 on Record Store Day in Metro Detroit

Music has a powerful ability to connect people across generations, languages and the world. People who listened to The Beatles when they first released a record can easily connect with people listening to the popular English band for their first time today. The same goes for music of all genres, from the most popular of artists to the most underground of labels.

Record Store Day is this Saturday, April 13 and Metro Detroiters are in luck because plenty of stores are still supporting the coveted vinyl discs. Support local businesses this Saturday and walk home with some fresh, new vinyl!

Detroit Threads

As a mainstay record store in Detroit, this store has carved out a niche for itself as a techno-centric record store. That doesn’t mean Detroit Threads doesn’t also cater to fans of other types of music. Their selection spans a multitude of genres from all over the world. With the annual electronic music festival Movement just around the corner, this store should definitely be on your list to check out.

Paramita Sound

Currently crowdfunding for the opening of its new store at 1515 Broadway St., Paramita Sound has been doing its due diligence to promote the music scene in Detroit. Until recently, the store was located at 1417 Van Dyke St. and had become known among locals for it’s free “Beat Profile” shows, which featured performances from artists big and small. As of this writing, pledges have almost reached $6,000 out of their $50,000 goal on Kickstarter. They plan to use the money for renovations, paying for musical performances, the introduction of a bar and more.
