Season of Giving: Spread Cheer to Pediatric Patients in Detroit

The holidays are a time when many people look for ways to spread cheer to the people they love the most. Sometimes it’s in the form of words, telling their loved ones how much they mean to them, and sometimes it’s in the form of a gift they know will brighten their day.
While it feels great to spread that joy to our loved ones, it’s equally important to spread some of that same joy to strangers, too. That’s the mission of The Bottomless Toy Chest, a nonprofit 501c(3) organization in Metro Detroit that provides a means by which people can deliver smiles to the faces of pediatric cancer patients undergoing treatment in local hospitals.
Cancer treatment not only takes a physical toll on the patient but can be financially debilitating for the parents of these children. What may seem like just a gift to some may be a small ticket to happiness to these kids and their parents.
That’s why your Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are once again partnering with The Bottomless Toy Chest to bring you the Season of Giving! For many years, we have worked with Mickey Guisewite, the founder of The Bottomless Toy Chest, and her team to facilitate a way in which kind-hearted Metro Detroiters can spread some holiday cheer to those that might need it the most. Just stop into a participating Metro Detroit Chevy Dealer now through December 11th and place new toys in the truck bed of the Chevy Silverado displayed in the showroom.
Afterward, all of the toys will be brought together to be sorted and gift-wrapped for pediatric patients across Metro Detroit. That’s how simple it can be to brighten a child’s day.
Guisewite started The Bottomless Toy Chest in 2008 after her own son was diagnosed with cancer and she witnessed the absolute joy he felt whenever he was gifted a new toy during his treatment. She wanted to bring that same happiness to other patients, something she knew would be greatly appreciated by not only the kids but their parents, too, who were likely struggling emotionally and financially during such a trying time.
“It’s extremely rewarding to be able to see the smiles on kids’ faces when we deliver toys. We’re paid in smiles, is what we always say,” Guisewite said. “There’s nothing quite so magical as seeing that moment when somebody who is going through something very difficult transforms within a matter of seconds when they see something that they really love that makes them feel good when they open it.”
Spread a little cheer to children facing cancer treatment this holiday season by stopping into your local Metro Detroit Chevy Dealer. You can also find out more about the Season of Giving or The Bottomless Toy Chest.
