There’s something about summer and carnivals that just go together. What better time of the year to ride a Ferris wheel, (try to) win some games, eat some elephant ears and enjoy live music while chomping on a scoop (or two) of ice cream?
Here’s where you can enjoy this American pastime in Metro Detroit all summer long.
This annual carnival is happening in Rochester Hills at the Hampton Village Center and has supported the Rochester Hills Lions Club and the Leader Dogs for the Blind for 42 years. Come and enjoy carnival rides from the North American Midway Shows, including a Ferris wheel and special rides, like “Freak Out” and “Himalaya.” There will also be carnival games, food and more.
Lake Orion Jubilee 2019 (June 20-23)
Find yourself in the heart of downtown Lake Orion for the Lake Orion Jubilee. Featuring midway rides, games, live entertainment and more, this carnival is great fun for the family. On Saturday, there will also be a fireworks display lighting up the night sky. If you are 21 or over, you can also enjoy a beer tent for refreshing drinks.
Oakland County Fair (July 5-14)
Happening over the course of 10 days, the Oakland County Fair in Davisburg features fireworks, carnival rides, demolition derby trucks, concerts and more. There are also plenty of farm animals to see, including newborn animals in the Miracle of Birth Barn. There are also themed days as well as special one-day events throughout the 10-day fair, so be sure to follow up with the complete schedule.
Southfield Festival of Hope (July 18-21)
Hosted by Hope United Methodist Church, the Southfield Festival of Hope is home to carnival rides, karaoke, food, desserts and more. There will also be live entertainment from jazz, gospel and R&B performers. The event is free to attend but each activity, including rides, have a fee. A wristband that grants unlimited access to rides is available for pre-purchase.
