Try Something New at The First Annual Vegan & Vodka in Royal Oak

Meat eaters can’t have all the fun! Vegans like a good food festival too. Lucky for them Vegan & Vodka makes its debut in the heart of Royal Oak this weekend.

The two-day event starting on Friday, August 2 will feature innovative vegan food items prepared by Royal Oak-based restaurants. Local distilleries and world-renowned brands will show off their perfectly paired cocktails and compete in a craft-cocktail competition. It will all happen between 2nd and 3rd Street in Downtown Royal Oak utilizing the newly redesigned alley walk.

Entry is free for all guests with food and drink sampling tickets available for purchase. Each of the 12 participating restaurants will have three different, five ounce dishes available to try, along with paired cocktails, craft beer, wine and more delicious drinks. Six discounted pre-sale tickets for food or beverages can be purchased online for $25, or $5 per ticket at the event.

Johnny Prepolec, one of the event organizers and owner of the participating Mr. B’s Gastropub, said that the event was inspired by the increased demand of vegan products in the Royal Oak community. The Royal Oak Restaurant Association wanted to highlight the best vegan items in the area and that’s when Vegan & Vodka was created.

“There’s a growing desire for plant based foods and Royal Oak has responded to that,” Prepolec said. “We encourage people to try something different and see the culinary strength of Royal Oak.”

Vodka is the other key part of the festival and attendees will be able to enjoy drinks from Valentine, Iron Fish, Reyka and many more. Guests will be able to try a wide arrange of drinks that are perfectly paired with the vegan options from the participating restaurants.

Eating and drinking isn’t the only thing taking place at Vegan & Vodka this weekend as there will also be live music, local artists, vendors, and health and wellness professionals to help those interested in vegan culinary items.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for people to try these great plant based foods that are not just for vegans, but foodies in general,” Prepolec said.
