Unleash the power of adventure with the Chevy Silverado's impressive towing capacity.
There is a certain type of person that just likes to run. You see them on your commute to work, jogging in the early morning hours. And if you are anything like me, you offer them silent props and head on your way not really giving them a second thought. But what is it that inspires these die hard runners to get up, lace up those trusty sneakers and brave the early morning weather, which is becoming increasingly chilly by the day? Well, for many of them, it is the prospect of a marathon looming around the corner.
The biggest marathon that Metro Detroit has to offer is the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon happening on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Talmer Bank is the title sponsor for the full marathon and your Metro Detroit Chevy dealers are the proud title sponsor for the half marathon.
This annual tradition, now in its 35th year, is actually a one of a kind marathon. It is the only international marathon around, as the race route takes runners to Canada and back. That’s right, not only are runners competing to finish with a great race time, they are also going to be running in 2 countries! How many other marathon participants can boast that?
The race route takes runners across both the Ambassador Bridge as well as through the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel. For the duration of the race, these two motorways are shut down to all traffic except the marathon participants. There will be competitors from all over the world running in the Detroit Marathon this year. Over 30 countries will be represented as well as at least one runner from each US state!

The Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon is more than just a race. It is a test of will and ability and those that run it are in an elite group. So, if you are interested in being part of that group and getting one of those 13.1 or 26.2 stickers for the back of your car (half marathon and full marathon distances for you non-runners), consider joining in next year’s Detroit Marathon. As for this year, be sure to head downtown to cheer on the participants. What they are doing is no easy feat!
