Halloween is right around the corner, and that means it is time to relive your childhood memories and dress up as something completely outrageous without being laughed at—well, sometimes. Dressing up with a group of friends under a general theme is always a lot of fun and is a great way to draw attention to yourselves (I know from experience). With parties and other festivities lurking, it is time to figure out what you and your group wants to dress up as. Luckily, I’ve been to a few Halloween parties in my day and I am here to give you ideas. Let’s explore, shall we?
Characters from television shows, comic books or movies: My personal favorite Halloween experience is when my friends and I dressed up as characters from Sesame Street and won the “Best Group Costume Award” at a party. Obviously, this award bares no real value, but it is something I will never forget. People are drawn to nostalgia, so if you want to stand out at an event full of outlandish outfits, fictional characters are always the way to go. Expect to have a lot of random people ask to take a picture with you. Other childhood shows like Teletubbies, Scooby Doo, and Power Rangers are all exceptional group costume ideas.
Additional movie, show or comic book character ideas:
Video games or arcade characters: One year I dressed up as Pac-Man and my friends as the ghosts. Yes, they chased me around a college campus, and yes, everybody loved it. Classic video games like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, or Sonic the Hedgehog could certainly please a crowd.

Music: There are a ton of easily recognizable musical groups out there for guys, such as The Beatles, Backstreet Boys, or ‘N Sync. Or for females, groups like Destiny’s Child, The Supremes or the Spice Girls would be a hit. These make for cheap, easy and great group costumes. Some advice here, let your creative side take over when designing your costume. Unless, of course, you enjoy people trying to guess who you are suppose to be for half of the night.
More musical ideas:
Pop culture/everyday life: Costumes like former presidents, reality television stars or famous athletes are great conversation starters at Halloween events. Since pop culture is a rather broad topic, you could really make anything work here. Trading cards like Pokémon, games like Monopoly and books like The Hunger Games offer a lot of potential for group costumes.

I don’t claim to be the know-all of Halloween costumes, but hopefully this list is enough to at least get you thinking of potential ideas for your group. Now, please excuse me as I brainstorm ideas for my friends and me to top our previous Halloween ensembles!
