Ferndale’s DIY Street Fair is back, and this year, it’s bigger and better than ever! The fair, which runs Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27, is a celebration of art, music, food, craft beer and family fun.
This year’s free event features the most artists in DIY history, with over 170 artists from Michigan and across the country.
“There is such wonderful variety of art and wares this year,” Krista Johnston, co-producer of the DIY Street Fair, said. “I have so many favorites, it’s hard to list.”

Fine arts, photography, jewelry, clothing, accessories, ceramics and more will all be available at DIY. Lounies Soap Co., Don’t Be Trashy designs, Mitten Made scarves and accessories and Detroit Grooming Co. scents and oils are just a few booths that you might come across this weekend.
Bands taking the Chevy Main Stage include Electric Six, Deastro and Mustard Plug. You can find the full line-up of performances here. The Detroit BBQ Company, Mac Shack, El Guapo, Delectabowl and Chicken Coupe will all be on hand with tasty food offerings.

“We literally could not do this event without Chevy Drives the Motor City,” Johnston said. “We are so grateful that they support art, music and those with the do-it-yourself spirit on the local level. We are very fortunate that they have been our partner for three years and appreciate their continued support.”

Additional offerings include free make and take crafts and hands-on science demonstrations courtesy of the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Michigan Science Center, a Theatre Bizarre spectacle, and Michigan craft brews, wine and cocktails.
New to the DIY Street Fair this year is a shuttle bus, which picks up at Ferndale High School (parking is $10) and drops off right at the fair entrance.
“(The DIY Street Fair is) an event that celebrates our unique, diverse and artistic community. It’s the ultimate backyard party with all your neighbors,” Johnston said.
