It’s a beautiful first week of fall in the Motor City, so there’s no doubt we’ll all be spending as much time as possible outdoors while we still can. But soon enough, indoor activities are going to be all the rage again, and when that time comes, head to the theater!
Whether you enjoy comedy, drama or something in between, there’s something theatrical out there for you this fall season.
The City Theatre of Detroit puts on “Evil Dead: The Musical” from Oct. 1 through Oct. 30, and it will most certainly get you in the Halloween spirit. I made sure to see this show last year, and I won’t be missing it this time around, either!

The Fisher Theatre brings Broadway to the city of Detroit with several shows this season. Everyone’s favorite classic romance, “Dirty Dancing,” hits the stage Oct. 20 through Nov. 1.
If pop music is more your style, check out “Jersey Boys” when it rolls through Nov. 17 through Dec. 6.
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is located in Canton, where upcoming featured performances include “The Producers,” which is performing now and concludes this Sunday. Next month, be sure to check out “Annie, Jr.” which runs Oct. 15 through Oct. 17.
The Baldwin Theatre of Royal Oak has main stage, second stage and youth theater performances. This season, the main stage is featuring musical comedy “Young Frankenstein” now through Oct. 4. In November, “Mary Poppins” makes its run and is fun for the whole family!
The Grosse Pointe Theatre, which also has a main stage and youth theater, is putting on “Monty Python’s Spamalot” now through Oct. 3. Next up is “Enchanted April,” which begins Nov. 8 and is based on the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim.
This year’s first youth theater production, “The Wiz,” begins late this year.
Additional venues with great theater productions include the Detroit Opera House, the Michigan Theater, the Fox Theatre and Meadow Brook Theatre. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to take in the theater this fall!
