The crepe, or a “really really thin pancake,” as Ricky Bobby from “Talladega Nights” calls it, is one of my favorite breakfast dishes. The city of Detroit has plenty of French influence, having been under French rule for about 60 years in the 1700s, after all. Having said that, it’s not surprising that there are many crepe joints around the metropolitan area. Listed below are a few must-try places offering tasty crepes.

Le Petit Zinc

Le Petit Zinc is among the top crepe destinations in Corktown. There are several crepe options here. Crepe Salees offer savory options like the Saucisson (French sausage and pickles) and Champignons (roasted mushrooms), while Crepe Sucrees offer sweeter selections such as Nutella, Citron Sucre (lemon and sugar) and more. Le Petit Zinc also does Sunday brunch.

The Crepe of Royal Oak

The menu at The Crepe of Royal Oak is diverse, and includes sweet, poultry, seafood and vegetarian options. The James Dean includes sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheddar and a cherry maple glaze. The S’more crepe has peanut butter, chocolate sauce, marshmallow sauce and graham cracker crumbs! The Crepe also offers a “Go Naked” option, where diners can order any entrée served on a bed of spinach or mixed greens instead of a crepe.

Le Andos Café

Amongst the many menu items at this Macomb Township café is the Monte Cristo, which consists of turkey, Dearborn ham and Swiss and American cheeses, sprinkled with powdered sugar and Melba sauce. Or, try the Le Ando’s Cinnabon: three small crepes stuffed with cinnamon and sweet cream cheese, topped with powdered sugar, cinnamon and chocolate syrup!

A Taste of Europe Crepes

This Rochester Hills restaurant is a family-owned business. Breakfast crepes, savory crepes and dessert crepes are all on the menu. The El Rancho consists of egg, mozzarella and pepper jack cheeses, onion, mushrooms, black beans, sour cream and salsa. The Caramel Apple Pie is a delicious treat made up of brown sugar, apples, cinnamon butter, whipped cream, caramel sauce and pecans.

Is your mouth watering yet? I know mine is. Do yourself a favor and visit any of these places for some quality crepes in southeast Michigan!
