Michigan temperatures are rising, which means summer is just around the corner. We’ve covered a couple of different ways to get active in the summer recently, but there’s one sport we want to focus on today: tennis. More specifically, we want to let you know about tennis courts in the metro Detroit area that are open to the public. That’s right; no clubs with expensive membership fees, just open, public parks with tennis courts and more.
This Royal Oak-based park is located at Girard & Vermont, West of Campbell between 12 & 13 Mile roads. It sports 19.32 acres of land and includes not only areas for tennis, but for volleyball, basketball, soccer and more. The park is open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Located in Farmington Hills at the corner of Independence and Waldron Streets in the center of the Olde Town residential subdivision, this park is made up of a shelter, two tennis courts, picnic tables, public grills and a children’s playground. It spans 3.7 acres and is open to everyone.
Funded through donations from the Rotary Club and a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant, Rotary Park is a small, but often-used park with two tennis courts, public grills, nature trails, sheltered/covered picnic tables, a playground and restrooms. So, even if you only make the trip out here to play tennis, you’ll have a good space to sit back and relax in between serves.
Whether you're going out on a fishing trip, discovering new hiking spots, or heading out for a weekend of camping, the Trailblazer is an ideal companion for your active lifestyle.
