Is it safe to say sushi makes the world go ‘round? How about, “Sushi makes the world ROLL ‘round?” No? I’ll see myself out…

In all seriousness, sushi is probably the most popular form of Japanese cuisine in the United States and has been for some time, which is why there is no shortage of sushi options in metro Detroit. See for yourself…

Super Happy Sushi

Having had its official opening on Sept. 28 after several pop-ups, Super Happy Sushi is in full swing inside the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD). Sushi chef Rob Lee presents a menu of appetizers, nigiri, sashimi and traditional rolls. A full bar complements the food offerings with bartenders pouring both classic and house cocktails. Sake, wine, beer and cider is also available.

Sushi Coup

Speaking of new sushi shops, Sushi Coup in Rochester Hills just opened its doors on Sept. 29. Taking the popular west coast “poke bowl” (think sushi roll in a bowl) and bringing it to The Mitten, Sushi Coup blends the make-it-your-way meal-building concept of places like Qdoba and Blaze Pizza with sushi. Served with rice, customers pick their vegetables on which their seafood (tofu, shrimp, California roll crab meat, tuna and salmon) will sit in the poke bowl. Be one of the first of your friends to try a new, healthy way to enjoy sushi.

From market trips to weekend getaways, the Chevy Trax’s versatile cargo space ensures you’re always ready for life’s adventures.

Bluefin Sushi

Thanks to renovations completed earlier this year, Bluefin Sushi in Grosse Pointe Farms is now able to cater to bigger crowds, bringing sushi goodness to even more people. Outside of the classic sushi roll, vegetarian roll, nigiri and sashimi, Bluefin also carries items like Thai coconut curry, Mongolian beef and even tacos.

Noble Fish

More than just a sushi restaurant, Noble Fish in Clawson (along with its sister stores One World Market and Mirai in Novi) is also a Japanese grocery store with fresh seafood, Japanese imported goods and more. For those wanting to take a stab at making their own sushi at home, Noble Fish has everything you need and more.

Yuzu Sushi

Having opened in January of this year, Yuzu Sushi in Royal Oak delivers the deliciousness of a good sushi roll in burrito form. Additionally, all burritos on the menu can be served in a bowl with the rice serving as the bed on which the rest of the ingredients rest.

Oyaki Sushi

Recently redesigned, Oyaki Sushi in Dearborn Heights delivers an upscale sushi dining experience with a decor, staff and menu to match. Some of its most popular items include the Las Vegas roll and the U of M roll. Additionally, Oyaki’s ingredients are fresh and locally sourced.

Koji

Located in quaint downtown Northville and with more than 30 hand-crafted sushi rolls, Koji has been a go-to destination for sushi lovers strolling through historic Northville.

Black Pine Tree

Black Pine Tree Sushi Bar & Restaurant brings a plethora of sushi options to the city of Southgate. What sets Black Pine Tree apart from other sushi restaurants is the variety of its signature rolls, like the self-titled Black Pine Tree roll (panko-fried roll with eel, cucumber, smelt roe, Japanese mayo and eel sauce) and the Obama roll (crabmeat, cucumber avocado fried in tempura, then covered in sweet signature sauce, then fire roasted and topped with fried potato shavings, and spicy and eel sauce).
