The holiday season is a lot of things, namely, time to be spent with your loved ones. But, it’s also an excuse to eat a lot of great food. While you might be preparing a delicious dinner with several courses, the course to never forget is dessert. For decadent desserts made locally in metro Detroit, check out a few of our recommendations below.

Bon Bon Bon

If you’re looking for no-frill, just plain-old-good fine, local chocolate, Bon Bon Bon in Hamtramck is where you’ll find it. Given the small business nature of Bon Bon Bon, the availability of certain chocolates is dependent on seasonal changes and the availability of product. Right now, Bon Bon Bon is producing “The Winter Collection,” which includes chocolates with names like “Cookies & Milk,” “Hot Toddy” and “Sweet Potato Casserole. Be sure to also check out “The Bon Bon Bon Collection.”

Hermann’s Bakery

Hermann’s Bakery in Royal Oak has one of the largest selections of specialty cakes in the area, including five styles: cakes/tortes/jelly, cheesecakes, sour cream cakes, chiffon and angel food flavors. How does almond crusted almond cheesecake sound? How about New Orleans mocha chiffon cake? Pineapple upside-down cake? To get a full view of the cakes on offer, check out Hermann’s website.

Lucki’s Cheesecakes 8 Mile

Located in Ferndale, Lucki’s Cheesecakes on 8 Mile Road (not to be confused with Lucki’s Cheesecakes in Detroit) does one thing and one thing well: cheesecakes. From strawberry shortcake to banana pudding and even one named after the most iconic superhero of all time, Superman, Lucki’s has a little taste of everything to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. The best part? If you’re looking to pick up a whole cheesecake and find yourself in a pinch (hello, last-minute holiday parties), walk-in purchases are welcome!

Avalon International Breads

Believe it or not, many people, Detroiters included, live on a vegan diet and that can be especially difficult during the holiday season. Just think of all of the delicious cakes and cookies that can’t be enjoyed due to ingredients like dairy products. Well, Avalon International Breads has that covered with several vegan cookies, bars and cakes. Vegan oatmeal raisin, peanut butter chocolate chip, Dequindre Cut Trail Mix and sea salt chocolate chip cookies are just the tip of the crunchy iceberg. As for vegan cakes, look no further than the Cadillac Square Chocolate Cake and the Cass Avenue Carrot Cake, both of which are sold by the slice or in varying full cake sizes.
