It didn’t take long for someone to mix the two together and today we have quite a selection of beer made with Michigan cherries. The sweet flavor and tart texture combine for one delicious ale. Bell’s Cherry Stout
Originally brewed almost 30 years ago under the name Great Lakes Cherry Stout 1988, Bell’s Cherry Stout blends Montmorency cherries from the Traverse City area with the malty taste and texture of a good stout. Find this one in 12 oz. bottles, as well as on draft at select bars and restaurants.
Rochester Mills Tongue Tied Cherry Saison
Tongue Tied Cherry Saison from Rochester Mills is a Belgian-style saison ale brewed with Michigan cherries to give it a sweet, tart flavor profile. Lemon, orange peels and coriander are also used to give it an herbal spiciness. All of this gives Tongue Tied Cherry Saison a pale, reddish, amber color.

This light wheat ale is brewed with Michigan cherries straight from Traverse City. It’s crisp. It’s tart. It’s refreshing. You can find it this spring at stores and restaurants in Michigan. It’s seasonal, though so get your fix before it’s gone!
