It seems like metro Detroit festival and event planners know this as they have arranged some pretty awesome and unique food events for Detroiters to enjoy this summer. So pack your bib and check out one of these fun food events happening this summer in the D.
If you’re looking for the best burgers in Metro Detroit, there’s no better place to be than at Eastern Market this Sunday for Burger Battle Detroit. The event will feature the area’s best chefs duking it out for the title of “Best Burger” as they’ll be judged on creativity and overall best taste. Just a few of the restaurants competing include Axle Brewing Co., TOAST Birmingham, and Great Lakes Burger Bar. Attendees will enjoy all-you-can-sample burgers, a full bar, live DJs, and a cornhole tournament.
If juicy ribs, sweet BBQ sauce, and the smell of flames coming off the grill don’t make you think of summertime in Michigan, we’re not sure what will. The Michigan Rib Fest will be taking over Royal Oak next weekend as the best rib chefs from the state come to show off their tasty creations. The festival will also include Michigan craft beers, local musicians, Monster Truck rides, and fun outdoor games. There’s a $3 entry fee which will benefit local charities.
For 28 years, the wonderful people of Yale, Michigan have been celebrating the deliciousness of bologna with their annual Bologna Festival. The festival was created to celebrate the town’s first class bologna that has been sold since 1906 and is still popular today. The main attractions are the crowning of the next King and Queen of Bologna, outhouse races, fireworks, the parade, and of course plenty of bologna to go around.

VegMichigan, a nonprofit organization focused on promoting the healthy benefits of a vegan diet, will be hosting their SummerFest in Livonia in August. The festival will showcase some of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants and stores in the area. There will also be live music, shopping, and family-fun activities.
Have you ever had melon ice cream? Because you need to. And you can at the 57th annual Howell Melon Festival. You might want to get in line early because it sells out every year, but if you don’t get a scoop of it, don’t worry there’s plenty more to do at the festival. There’ll be local musicians, the 4th annual mascot dash, a car show, and the kids’ melon patch and carnival. There’s no sweeter way to wind down the summer than at the Howell Melon Festival.
