We can all get in the habit of eating the same things over and over again. Frequenting your favorite restaurant can be satisfying on any given night, but sometimes it’s worth it to try something a little more adventurous. From sushi burritos, to corned beef egg rolls, to very spicy pizza, there are plenty of places in metro Detroit that are putting delicious twists on your favorite foods. Here are four recent food trends we’ve seen in metro Detroit that we think should be on your radar.

Sushi Burritos (Yuzu Sushi Co.)

Calling all sushi lovers! If you’re looking for an exciting way to experience your favorite sushi creations, we’ve got the place for you. Yuzu Sushi Co. is Michigan’s first sushi burrito and poke concept restaurant, and they are known for their sushi burritos. Similar to a sushi roll, a sushi burrito features 12 ounces of your favorite sushi, conveniently in burrito form. The Royal Oak restaurant also offers poke bowls which features your choice of sushi ingredients on top of a bed of lettuce. Both are great alternatives to the sushi roll, and Yuzu Sushi Co. has been a popular spot since it opened its doors in 2016.

Corned Beef Egg Roll (Asian Corned Beef)

A popular choice among Detroiters, but perhaps unknown to those who live outside the city, the corned beef egg roll from Asian Corned Beef is a must try for those with adventurous taste buds. Filled with corned beef, cheese, and orange “duck sauce,” the corned beef egg roll is a popular option from the fast food Asian restaurant. There are three locations in Detroit and be sure to follow them on Facebook for updates on their menu.

Ghost Pizza (Amar Pizza)

If you think you’ve tried every variation of pizza, you need to visit Amar Pizza in Hamtramck. The pizza parlor is renowned for its unique pizza pies including the Tandoori, Naga, Southwestern, Mediterranean and their most noteworthy, Ghost pizza. Featuring chicken, red onions, cilantro, and their famous ghost sauce, the spicy pizza is for those who like their foods extra hot.
