The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers (MDCD), in partnership with Volunteers of America Michigan (VOAMI), are launching a month-long shoe drive, “Step Up for Kids” to benefit underprivileged youth in our local communities. For the whole month of September the dealership association encourages residents to donate new shoes to support low-income and homeless children in Metro Detroit.
All shoes collected during the drive will be distributed to kids ages 4-18 within Metro Detroit through Volunteers of America Michigan and their Intermediate School District Partners. New shoes from youth size 11 to adult size 11 are most in need, with sneakers such as Nike, Adidas, Converse, and Vans being the preferred donation.
“When you donate a pair of shoes, you’re not only providing a means by which students can partake in school sports, after-school activities, and all the other things kids enjoy. But you’re also providing confidence, independence, and self-worth,” says Jill Harvey of VOAMI.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the 38 participating Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers from September 1 through September 30. Simply place your donation in the designated Silverado truck bed display, and your generous gift will be distributed locally to homeless or low-income students.
