The wait is over for car fanatics, the 2014 North American Auto Show opens this week at the Cobo Center in Downtown Detroit! As we all know, there is a special bond between Detroit and the auto industry. It is an incredible feeling knowing we live in the place that put the world on wheels.
Not only is it a great week for car enthusiasts everywhere; It is also a great week for Chevrolet. The Silverado took home the coveted honor of 2014 Truck of the Year, and if that wasn’t enough already, the Corvette Stingray (also known as my dream car) won 2014 Car of the Year! For the first time ever, Chevrolet has swept the NACTOY awards, and I don’t expect it to be the last.
The Corvette received 211 points in voting, topping the runner up Mazda3 by an astonishing 26 points. The Silverado was even more impressive. It received 219 points, which trumped the second place Jeep Cherokee by an unprecedented 45 points!
In addition, Chevy revealed the 2015 Corvette Z06 to the media Monday morning during the Auto Show’s press preview. The Corvette Z06 is “the most capable Corvette ever,” as it is the first of its kind to closely link the bridge between Corvettes built to race and those built for the road. Let’s take a quick look at some of the specs for this stunning vehicle:
- The 2015 Z06 enters “supercar” territory with race-proven design, advanced technologies and world-class performance.
- It is the first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine, automatic transmission and removable roof panels.
- The vehicle is estimated to have 625 horsepower and 635 lb-ft of torque on the LT4 6.2L Supercharged V-8 engine.
- The LT4 engine uses lightweight titanium intake valves and machined connecting rods for reduced reciprocating mass.
- The supercharged LT4 is offered with two different transmissions: a standard seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match, or a brand new 8L90 eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.
- The most recent Z06 offers three increasing levels of aerodynamic downforce.
- Goes from 0-60 in an unbelievable 3.5 seconds.
- The 2015 Z06 was co-developed with the Corvette C7.R race car.
- Like the Stingray, the Driver Mode selector of the Z06 offers up to a dozen features to suit the driver’s environment.
