Built for those who build. The Chevy Silverado's strength and versatility make it the perfect partner for all your home improvement projects.
On Monday, two 2016 Chevrolet vehicles were bestowed with prestigious awards by Motor Trend magazine: Motor Trend 2016 Car and Truck of the Year. The 2016 Chevy Colorado was named Truck of the Year (for the second year in a row), while the 2016 Camaro took home the award for Car of the Year.
Motor Trend Car of the Year is given out annually by Motor Trend magazine, and is one of the auto industry’s most esteemed awards. Additional categories include Truck of the Year and SUV of the Year. Here, you’ll find a list of Motor Trend’s Car of the Year winners from 1949 to present.
When determining which vehicle is deemed Car and Truck of the Year, Motor Trend examines criteria including advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value and performance of intended function. Below, we examine how both Chevrolet vehicles not only meet but excel in some of the aforementioned categories.
Efficiency
Built for those who build. The Chevy Silverado's strength and versatility make it the perfect partner for all your home improvement projects.
The 2016 Chevy Colorado has advanced 2.5-liter I-4 and 3.6L V6 engines, as well as the 2.8L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel, which gets up to 31 mpg highway.
Safety
Advanced safety features available with the 2016 Colorado include Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning. Standard rear vision cameras help prevent accidents, allowing you to navigate safely, no matter where you’re driving in the Motor City.
Advancement in design
The sixth generation Camaro just rolled off of assembly lines earlier this month, and is set to arrive in showrooms by the end of the year. The all-new 2016 Camaro is at least 200 pounds lighter than its previous model, not to mention more powerful.
The redesigned sports car is aerodynamically designed to improve airflow and performance, including tighter proportions that allow for more pronounced rear quarter panels.
Efficiency
Available powertrain options with the 2016 Camaro include 2.0-liter turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 and LT1 6.2-liter V-8 engines. The LT’s standard turbo engine allows for great efficiency and goes from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
