Fourth of July is one of the biggest event days of the year, as there are plenty of fireworks, fairs, parades, barbecues, and so on. Independence Day falls on a Monday this year, which means there are even more activities to check out leading up to the holiday. To help you keep track of the best events happening in Metro Detroit, here are five local events to look forward to.
Freedom Fireworks at Addison Oaks County Park
Oakland County Parks hosts the Freedom Fireworks on Friday, July 1 at 10 p.m. at Addison Oaks County Park. Throughout the weekend, families can enjoy numerous activities such as a bicycle parade, DJ, wagon rides, face painters, and much more.
Hazel Park Raceway Fireworks
The Hazel Park Raceway will host a night of horse racing and fireworks on Friday, July 1. Admission is free with races starting at 6:30 p.m. and the fireworks taking place after the conclusion of the final race.
Michigan Rib Fest
The annual Michigan Rib Fest takes place Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. This year’s festival features something for everyone as there will be live music, pig races, monster truck rides, car shows, and a ton of great barbecue. There will also be fireworks on Friday to conclude the first night of the festival. Tickets are $3 before 3 p.m. and $5 after 3 p.m.
Corktown Strut
The inaugural Corktown Strut Festival will give metro Detroiters the chance to hear over 50 musical artists in eight different venues, try new offerings from local restaurants, and experience the ever growing Corktown neighborhood in Detroit. The festival’s slogan, “No genres, just good music” assures there is something for everyone to enjoy over the holiday weekend.
Clawson Fourth of July Festival
This year’s Clawson Fourth of July Festival gets started on Sunday, July 3 with an Arts & Crafts Fair, along with some Midway Games and Rides in Clemson City Park. On July 4, the day is packed with events such as the Memorial Pancake Breakfast, the $1,000 Firecracker Mile, the Independence Parade, the Clawson versus Troy Fire Department Water Battle, and of course some fireworks at night.
