At the heart of downtown Detroit is Campus Martius Park, an epicenter of fun where everything becomes a bit more magical during the winter months. A towering, 60-foot tall Norway Spruce decked out with more than 19,000 twinkling multi-colored lights sits next to the ice rink during the holidays, where you can escape to a winter wonderland.
Below is your official guide to a magical, holiday-themed outing at Campus Martius:
Ice Skating
You can’t go anywhere near Campus Martius between November and March and not throw on a pair of skates. The ice rink conveniently has an Arctic Zone snack bar with hot chocolate, Faygo pop and bottles of water, as well as a Rink Side Bar with Atwater craft beer offerings.
Admission to the rink costs $8 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and under, as well as for seniors ages 50 and over. Skate rental is $3.

Other activities
Bring the kids to Visit with Santa this Friday and Saturday. The jolly ol’ man himself will be at Campus Martius from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride, which is fun for both couples and families. Hitch a ride this weekend starting at 6 p.m. for $10 (or $40 if you want a private carriage ride). You’ll have another chance next weekend on Saturday, Dec. 26 and Sunday, Dec. 27.

Food & drink
If you’re looking for the closest place to dine, look no further than Fountain Bistro at Campus Martius. The European restaurant has a sophisticated dinner menu, including Seared Salmon, Pork Tenderloin and Roast Airline Chicken Breast.
Just a two-minute walk away is Grand Trunk Pub, a casual setting with more than 170 different bottled craft beers awaiting you. Warm up with a brew and order The Famous Grand Trunk Pub Reuben, Two James Meatloaf or Chevy Club.
