The next time summer boredom hits and you’re looking for a way to spend some free time in the D, head to a downtown area (whether you’ve been there before or not) and do some exploring.

While downtown Plymouth is my personal favorite quaint area for eating great food and visiting cute shops, there are plenty of other downtown areas in Metro Detroit to take advantage of—such as downtown Milford.

Since no one should ever wander around town on an empty stomach, be sure to fuel up before you get started or at the very least, at some point along the way. Try one of the following eateries downtown:

Bangkok City Thai Cuisine, 427 N. Main St., Milford, is a great choice because, Thai. The menu includes Spring Rolls, Crab Cheese and Shrimp Rolls for an appetizer, and entrée choices like Pad Cashew (your choice of meat or tofu with stir fried cashews, bell peppers, onions and celery with brown sauce), Buddha Delight (your choice of meat or tofu with stir fried broccoli, napa cabbage, baby corn, peapods, carrot, spanish onions and pineapple with sweet and sour sauce) and Chian Rai Eggplant (your choice of meat or tofu with stir fried slices of eggplant, green pepper, Spanish onion and garlic ginger sauce).

From farm work to heavy lifting, the Chevy Silverado is built to tackle the toughest tasks with ease.

Red Dog Saloon, 250 W. Summit St., Milford, is a great place to grab something to eat and hydrate (or maybe not) with an ice-cold beer. The menu is simple and includes sandwiches like a BBQ Pulled Pork Sub, Frannie Burger (with two slices of bacon and American cheese), wings, quesadillas, nachos and plenty of beer to pick from.

“The Dog” hosts live music on the weekends, and on Friday, June 6, The Kingsnakes will take the stage, while Stuck On Dirty will perform the following night.

Additional downtown eateries worth checking out include Milford House Bar & Grill (which has great fish and chips), Smoke Street and Fresco Pizza Café.

If you’re interested in art, there are plenty of galleries and gift shops in downtown Milford, including The Aubergine GalleryHoot Gift Gallery and Going Glazy, where you can create your own pottery.

You’ll find plenty of clothing and accessories at After the RainParisxox and The Clothing Cove, which carries everything from special occasion dresses to jewelry to accessories to handbags.

When planning your visit to downtown Milford, keep in mind that the Milford Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the Summer Concert series is held the same day each week from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Additionally, on the fourth Friday of every month, Friday Night Live! is held, which offers free music and art. This month, it will take place on Friday, June 27.

Get your credit cards ready for next month, because downtown Milford will hold its Sidewalk Sale on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. In addition to merchandise for sale, you will also have your pick of outdoor dining, food trucks, a beer and entertainment tent, movie nights and more.

While technically not in the downtown area, if you have some extra time in Milford, swing by Kensington Metro Park, 2240 W. Buno Rd., Milford Township, at some point to relax at the park or sit by Kent Lake. It’s a great way to wrap up your busy day in downtown Milford!
