Do you love just geeking out on comics, movies, action figures, and pop culture? Or maybe you have family or friends who are fiction fanatics? Well, we’ve got news for you. The Motor City Comic Con and the Great Lakes Comic Convention are coming to Metro Detroit in October… but you probably already knew that if you’re a fan yourself. If not, here’s the 411…

Motor City Comic Con

Established in 1989, the Motor City Comic Con just keeps getting better as time goes on. For 33 years, this convention has provided comic lovers an opportunity to connect and interactively experience and engage in pop culture. Multiple themed events will take place and among the attendees will be a variety of celebrity guests, including comic book creators, writers, artists, actors, and even rock stars and professional wrestlers. To name a few: Laurie Holden, Alice Cooper, Greg Cipes, Justin Cook, and James “Murr” Murray. But wait, there’s more. Convention-goers can also expect quite the treasure trove of comics, movies, artwork, games, merchandise, collectible toys, and crafts available to buy and take home. The Motor City Comic Con was initially a semi-annual event but was adjusted to occur annually after 2006. However, due to popular demand, the convention has been reverted back to its original frequency.

The Motor City Comic Con is set for Friday, October 14, from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Suburban Collection Showplace.

The Great Lakes Comic Convention

The Great Lakes Comic Convention was inspired by the communal desire for a charitable event where collectors and dealers or creators can convene. Comics, toys, and collectibles alike are bought and sold at this annual event, with a portion of the proceeds being used to support children’s literacy and other charitable causes. After encountering unexpected success at the very first convention in 2010, the team continues to work tirelessly year after year to refine and enhance the overall experience. There’s even available information regarding next year’s convention. The Great Lakes Comic Convention will take place Saturday, October 8th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church/School.

With these conventions and Halloween right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get those costumes ready to go, if they aren’t already.
