Holiday Favorites on the Big Screen

The holiday season is full of spending time with loved ones, gifts, and of course, your favorite holiday movies! Metro Detroit is giving families the opportunity to experience their favorite holiday movies on the big screen throughout the holidays. So whether you’re into the Muppets, Will Ferrell, or John Hughes, check out these holiday movie screenings throughout Metro Detroit.

“The Muppet Christmas Carol” at Redford Theatre (12/7)

Kermit, Gonzo, Miss Piggy and more of your favorite Muppets bring their signature zany humor to the Redford Theatre on Saturday, December 7 with a screening of “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” The family-friendly fun spin on the classic Charles Dickens story is considered one of the Muppets’ most hilarious adventures. Kids can get their picture taken with Santa before the show, with doors opening at 1 p.m.

“Miracle on 34th Street” at Emerald Theatre (12/8)

Arguably the most beloved holiday film of all-time comes to one of Metro Detroit’s most beloved venues when “Miracle on 34th Street” screens at the Emerald Theatre on Sunday, December 8. The perennial Christmas favorite will be shown for just $5 for adults, while children 12 and under are free. Other Emerald Theatre holiday favorites include a performance from the Metropolitan Detroit Chorale on Saturday, December 14 and DRAG-ing in the New Year on New Year’s Eve.

“Elf” at The Michigan Theater (12/15)

You and your family can catch all the hi-jinx of Buddy the Elf when The Michigan Theater hosts a free screening of “Elf” on Sunday, December 15. The Will Ferrell classic will begin at 1:30 p.m. and is presented by My Urban Toddler, a perfect place to find some last minute toddler gifts. The screening is part of The Michigan Theater’s holiday classic series which will also include “A Christmas Story” on Sunday, December 8 and “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Sunday, December 22. 

Holiday Movie Trivia at Detroit Fleat (12/15)

Show off your Christmas movie knowledge at the Detroit Fleat’s Holiday Movie Trivia night on Sunday, December 15. Teams of up to five will compete for a $100 grand prize as they will be asked questions about films such as “Christmas Vacation,” “Scrooged,” “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” “Die Hard,” and a lot more. Entry is $25 per person and must be purchased online before the event.

“Home Alone” in Concert at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (12/18)

See “Home Alone” like you’ve never seen it before at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s “Home Alone” in Concert on Wednesday, December 18. See the film on the venue’s giant screen accompanied by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as they perform John Williams’ iconic score along with the movie.
